Strange and Familiar DVD

Shot over several years by Canadian filmmakers Marcia Connolly and Katherine Knight, "Strange and Familiar: Architecture on Fogo Island" profiles the "strangely familiar" contemporary architecture of Fogo Island, Newfoundland.

The film captures the design and building processes of the four Fogo Island Arts artist studios and the Fogo Island Inn, which were commissioned by Shorefast Foundation and designed by Newfoundland-born architect Todd Saunders. These structures are at once radically contemporary and resolutely traditional and have been featured in hundreds of publications worldwide. The film also explores the design process and production of outport furniture and furnishings for the Inn.

Featuring in-depth interviews with architect Todd Saunders and Shorefast Foundation founder and CEO Zita Cobb, "Strange and Familiar" is both visually stunning and thought-provoking as it allows viewers to contemplate the role that architecture plays in place-making.
