In Newfoundland, a "bridge" is an uncovered wooden platform at the door of a home. Often referred to outside of the province as a “deck” or “patio,” bridges are the connection between a door and the ground. They facilitate movement but are also informal gathering places – the perfect location for a boil-up or to enjoy friends’ company in the Fogo Island sunshine.
Like the bridges of Newfoundland homes, the Bridge Series, by Swiss designer Anthony Guex, was designed with purpose and mobility in mind. The series features wide horizontal slats inspired by Fogo Island’s vernacular structures. An enduring essential, the series is perfectly proportioned and designed to dematerialize by using the least amount of materials possible.
