Inspiration
Putting design in its place means even a small space. A Fogo Islander commented “We didn’t have much but enough was enough.”
The shed in Outport Newfoundland was as much a part of the home as the home and coming together to form a family Premises. The shed is part workshop, part entertaining space and even part craft studio before craft was a concept.
The Finefolk stools by Canadian designer Katrina Tompkins have the spirit of the shed space where traditionally, three-legged stools were used as task chairs made for working because three legs made them stable for uneven ground. The stools have human-scaled proportions and fit into an urban loft as easily as a salt box house. Completely contemporary at the same time as being of the past, the collection presents an appreciation of the ‘super normal’ with quiet aesthetics that prioritize utility and tranquility desirable in modern urban life.
